  • Dr. Gabriel Ayonmigbesimi AKRA

    Dr Gabriel A AKRA is a Consultant/Specialist in Emergency Medicine. He had his training at Gosford Hospital NSW Australia and partly at Wyong Hospital and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead Sydney, where he did his Paediatric Emergency Medicine training. He completed all his training in 2016 and was appointed a Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine and Director of Research at the Albury Wodonga Health from 2016 to 2020. Towards the end of this appointment, he founded the innovative model of care with a hybrid between Emergency Medicine and General Practice at Spring Medical Group in Gosford. The practice opened its doors to the public in May 2019 and has grown to two branches as of 2022. The Emergency Medicine arm (Spring Emergency Centre) of the hybrid model of care with Dr G A Akra as one of the team of Emergency Specialists, Nurse Practitioners and Administrative Staff opened its doors to the public in January 2022. Dr Akra has a great interest in General Emergency, Emergency Cardiology, Paediatric Emergencies, Mental Health Issues in the Emergency Centre, and Trauma.

    Dr Gabriel Akra has experience in Emergency Medicine/Trauma, having worked in the following Hospital Emergency Departments: Mount Gambier Hospital in South Australia, Kalgoorlie Hospital and Bunbury Hospital in Western Australia.

    Dr Akra’s Emergency and Trauma Care Experience dates to 1996, when he first trained as a Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon between the United Kingdom and Nigeria in West Africa. A training which culminated in his induction into the Edinburgh College of Surgeons as a fellow in 2002 (FRCSEd), with a change in his title from Dr to Mr (a title he prefers), followed by his induction into the West Africa College of Surgeons as a Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2004 (FWACS). His notable jobs/experience include basic surgical training at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan Nigeria, general trauma and orthopaedics at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Kano Nigeria, Newham General Hospital London UK, Furness General Hospital at Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England, Sunderland Royal Infirmary at Sunderland England. He subsequently worked at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough England where he did a Spine orthopaedic job for one year and a combined paediatric and lower limb orthopaedic job for one year. It was during this period he developed a passion for research in Medicine and a focus in foot and ankle problems with a scientific paper in foot pressure changes before and after ankle fusion.

    In the years 2007 to 2009, Dr Gabriel Akra started to do more works in Accident and Emergency with his first appointment as a clinical fellow at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital, Pembury, Tunbridge Wells, Kent UK, followed by an appointment as a Registrar at the Darent Valley Hospital Dartford in Kent England.

    In his quest for more knowledge and excellence in training and delivery of service, he sought a formal training in Emergency Medicine which was not readily available to international Medical Graduates in England at the time. Therefore, he relocated to Australia on 3rd of September 2009 to start his training in Emergency Medicine. A training which formally started in 2010.

    Besides clinical medicine, Dr Akra has a great interest in research and teaching medical students and young doctors. He was appointed a conjoint lecturer at the Albury campus of the rural medical school of University of NSW in 2017, and rose to become a senior lecturer, teaching and examining in emergency medicine and anatomy. He is at present, appointed as a conjoint fellow of the university of Newcastle Medical School on the central coast.

    His research interests include foot and ankle problems, Pedobarograph studies, spine orthopaedics, general orthopaedics, imaging in trauma, bronchiolitis/asthma, and migraine.

    Outside of medicine, Dr Akra is married to his lovely wife Mrs Laurel Akra and are both blessed with four children (Noyo, Emiko, Maye and Agura). He loves to spend time every morning to teach his children the word of God (20 minutes with Dad), principles of life and how to walk with God and achieve impressive results.

    Dr Akra enjoys going out for walks, plays golf on weekends, loves to pray and loves church.

    He does real estate development with a few development projects on his portfolio. He is also a “self-styled Venture Capitalist.”

  • Dr Adesoji George Olabode

    Dr Olabode is a specialist emergency medicine physician. George completed his Medical degree in 2002. He has spent the last 15 years in the practice of emergency medicine and became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine in 2015.

    His interests are medical education, patient safety and quality improvement in emergency medicine.

    In his spare time he likes to go hiking and play soccer.

  • Dr. Charles RENDEL

    Dr. Charles Rendel (BSc MBBS FACEM) studied medicine and surgery at Imperial College London, graduating in 2012. He has also completed a Bachelor of science in Neuroscience and Mental Health and studied Public Health at the University of Tasmania. He has worked at Guys and St Thomas hospital in London and moved to Australia in 2014 where he has worked across at the Central Coast, John Hunter and Wagga Base hospitals. He is currently works as a consultant in Emergency Medicine having been awarded Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine in 2023. He is passionate about teaching and is involved in teaching medical students through to junior doctors and Emergency Registrars.

    Outside of work he enjoys spending time with has beautiful family, playing soccer and surfing.
